2 years and 8 months...

at two years and eight months, you are officially buddies.  lots and lots of duets happening around these parts.  floor play and toy trading...
maeve, you've been sharing your love of nature with jasper and showing him around the trails...
and as usual, we've logged lots of hours in the stroller on some long walks...
maeve, we will start with you.  if this month were boiled down to a few things it would be lots of words and lots of hair…and silliness!
look at this bedhead...
i mean come on!
you've started exploring your clothes and having opinions about what you want to wear...
you come home from school each day with art projects.  this month there were lots of thanksgiving inspired crafts...
your pilgrim and his white "underwear"...
we're still at it on the trampoline...

with the warmer days before the snow, we went out muddin'...
you helped us set up and decorate the tree.  you loved all the ornaments, but the little pink onesie from your first christmas that nana gave you was your favorite...
my dear, you love your letters and know nearly all of them.  when we ask you what a letter is, sometimes you say the letter and other times you say the word that we often associate with the letter (you love to say ross for letter r)...
we do lots of playing.  it's the first thing you ask to do when you come downstairs in the morning and how we end each and every day.  this photo below, while blurry, is so you…with about 100 things going on.  here you are with your captain's hat, purse, your baby, and your snoopy...
you are quite into wearing our things.  like my hat...
and dad's glasses...
maeve, a few things i never want to forget about this month…how you lay on the second step on your way up the stairs, how you put yourself in a timeout at daycare, watching your brain work through your words and seeing your linguistic logic (sticky hands = i have pinecone, the number 16 makes you think of christina, when we asked if you knew about frozen you nodded and after a pause said "frozen peas!"), exploring at the sugarloaf library, your love of washing machines, how you call hobbes "hobby" when you are mad at him or annoyed with him, the oatmeal video you made me while i was in baltimore, how you want to know the last names of everyone at daycare…and their parents' names, your request of "i need tissue", dollhouse play, your love of mango, watching your eyes as you scan the room for elf on a shelf, how your mind was blown by the christmas tree on top of the car, and you and alice gibbons chasing each other around the house before bed.

and now for you jasper, mr. man, jazzy bear.  my photos show you outside all the time.  a nature lover...
even early in the morning after a crummy night of sleep...
strolling...

bundled...
we snapped this one on a walk with hobbes...
and this picture is so you.  chill, yet curious and observant….
you look quite grown up in this picture...
this is a favorite.  that old man sweater.  your blondie hair.  that cheeky smile...
early morning striped face rub...
while on my work trip i got this photo of you riding hobbes...
there aren't words. your knees are simply amazing...
and someone is ready for camping...
oh my dear, your belly, your rolls, your wrists.  sigh...
jasper, a few things i never want to forget about this month…your thrashing legs in the crib, pivoting on that belly, your fishy face, that maeve was eating your pouches at school, sitting up and arms looking like you are on a motorcycle, tongue clicking, and that laugh!

this month we went on lots of trips and had some visitors at our house.  we went to our new house at sugarloaf…

maeve, you thought the coolest features were the stacked washing machine/dryer and the bunk beds.  you are still talking about them.  jazz, you slept in the bunk bed...
maeve, you got bundled up in your snow suit to explore the snow...
we did some hiking on the trails...
we went up the coast for thanksgiving to visit nana and popsie and dee dee and papaw.  first stop, rockport, where you two held down the end of the table and held hands…
we bundled up because it was really cold...
and took a post-turkey walk...
we went to the spot where we got married and checked out the ocean...
the next day we went to new harbor...
cutest dishwasher in town...
maeve, you are working on your presidents as a result of your placemat.  after our trip you asked me "what bill's name" and you were looking for me to say "clinton"--a liberal, indeed!
and someone got some bangs!!!
and then played hair turban...
and jasper you played samurai the next morning at breakfast...

and now a few videos from this month.  maeve, this first one is you watching a birthday video from your friend, mylah.  you LOVED watching it...

we got in lots of slide time before the snow arrived...

jasper, when we stood you up on the edge of your crib you were simply delighted...

last year we got a drum from a friend in senegal, this year we got another instrument...

this month flew by with so many wonderful adventures and so many changes from each of you.  i try to savor our time, even though it feels like it's happening at warp speed.  this life, this stream of consciousness, this beautiful run-on sentence…

i am soaking up each of your individual "nowness" and i am in awe of this incredible thing that is the two of you together.  xo

  1. I don't know why I have not come to your blog in SO long....it is beyond wonderful! Your kids are adorable and I am just super impressed with Maeve and her presidents. Congrats on the Ski house, that is so special for all of you! Some of my greatest kid memories ever were made at ours (and we did not have bunk beds). Miss you guys, but love seeing your kids grow through your blog :) xxx Jess Duncan
