23 months and 6 months...

here we are at 23 and 6.  the video above pretty accurately sums it up.  playing, captain's hats, silliness, and jasper just going with the flow.  i was able to capture lots of photos of you two together this month.

at the bar...
during story hour...
rehearsing...
during a duet...
at mealtime!
getting home from school, just before daily chalk time...
hanging on the stoop with jo...
posing with pumpkins...
on a chilly stroller ride...
in the leaves...
more pumpkin time...
during a sleepy/zoned out stroller ride...
on a foggy walk with hobbes...
and on a family hike...
we've been busy! jasper, i'll start with you this month my sweet, big, giggly boy...
this month you did lots more cooing, teething, and grabbing…and a little less sleeping at night.  even still you get up just twice in the night.  speaking of sleep, you've been less interested in your pacifier, preferring to use your thumb.  here we captured a shot of you snoozing...
and while this one is blurry, i couldn't resist. i mean look at that luscious body and those sweet rolls...
speaking of rolls, this month you rolled over from back to belly. and you do it quite often.  when you are sitting, if you happen to tip over you flip around and push yourself up.  you quickly outgrowing your carseat...
you are getting more blonde hair...
you love being silly during playtime...
and get really messy during food time. this month you demanded a half of a banana. we handed it to you and you started gumming it.  hello solids (or should i say purees)...
speaking of food, you delivered some meals to a neighbor...
and hung out a lot at the kitchen bar...
you played for a half hour with this basket of toys and looked so big while playing that i had to put on the headband...
i took this picture of you in the tub on your six month birthday.  first, you are so squeezable.  second, how the heck are you already six months old?
and you are in 12 month clothes now...
this next photos seems like a good transition.  maeve you are fascinated by your letters.  we play with them each night, spelling the names of our friends and loved ones.  this is a typical scene...
maeve, you are on the move.  this month brought us running, adventures, and so much activity.  you take swimming lessons now, run up the ramp at school, and love doing "june puzzle"…it's busy here.  you love cruising the neighborhood...
and the new section of the west side trail...
and on this particular day, which was cold, you wanted your jacket off and you walked up and down the street with your belly out and shirt in your mouth...
you've been very into books this month.  your favorites are: where's waldo (and side note: you find him faster than me and dad!), ten little babies, my friends (which you call "hi-ya" because of the karate chopping gorilla in the book), and "judy book" (pat the bunny)...
your favorite thing seems to be playing around outside of the house...
and playing with chalk ("that dee-dee")...
you love playing in the sink, running water, bubbles, and "do it self"...
this is your spot where you often take your "wah-ta bah-tul" and take a moment to reflect...
oh maeve. you are joy and light.  this month brought lots of singing.  you came home from school one day asking "where tunkin" and i couldn't figure our what you were saying.  then i realized you were singing where is thumbkin.  you love mary had a little lamb, happy birthday, row row row your boat, the peanut song, the wheels on the bus, and humpty dumpty...
this is one of my favorite pictures of you from this month.  may the sound of the water, the smooth beach stones, and beautiful skies anchor themselves deep in your being, in your soul, in your sweet heart...

and now a few videos from the month.  first, you got crazy about dancing this month...

and got sooooo excited when you saw dad rowing the boat in at madeleine point...

and ready, set, go…you're off...

this month we took a visit to new harbor to see dee-dee and papaw.  we played on the floor...
got bundled up for a morning walk...
did some backpack time...
and some sibling tummy time...
on a hike a the la verna preserve we realized we were over branded...
but had lots of fun...
and ate some of papaw's hair...

we showed off meaty legs...
and eating with adult utensils...
on the way to new harbor we met nana in damariscotta, popped in to see popsie doing some chores in round pond, and then arrived at dee-dee and papaw's house.  all four grandparents in a span of 45 minutes.  how lucky are we?!??

speaking of nana and popsie, we also took a visit to rockport this month.  we went on a family hike up maiden's cliff...
you two are heavy, but we made it to the top!
we took a stroll with cousin eve...
we ate lots of food...
we explored in the garden with popsie...
you ended up with a sweet pumpkin and a green bean (inspired by your friend ezra!)...
we played with nana's awesome dollhouse...
we walked on the beach...
and you collected your first beach stone, maeve...
we wore lots of fleece, because it was quite chilly...
but not too chilly for some mini-golf with ian, megan, and eve...
uncle ian gave us some pointers, while eve looked on...
and you explored course, maeve...
we played in the little house in the woods...
a few times, in fact...
walked out on the pier...
had ice cream cones with uncle ian and popsie...
and spent lots of time at the workshop over the course of the weekend...
and we had some a family meeting...
we loved our visit with nana and popsie.  and we can't wait until cousin eve, ian, and megan live down the street!

at 23 and 6 it wouldn't be right to ignore the captain's hats.  they are part of our everyday and somehow this series (and the video above) just sums it up...
so serious...
so silly...
and i'll close with these two pictures.  the top photo is of you jasper...
and this below is you maeve around six months.
and i'm wearing the same sweater.  which seems about right.  life is wonderfully cyclical, isn't it?  and you two of you bring me such joy in the everyday…in the mundane…in the routine.  in the wiping of faces, the rinsing in the tub, the packing of lunches, and the walks in the stroller.  by just showing up, in some boring brown sweater, the magical world unfolds.  your worlds, where you invite us in and where you are simply yourselves.  it is a wonderful reminder and a wonderful privilege.  xo.
