21 months and 4 months...

at 21 months and 4 months things are loud and busy.  maeve you are talking, shrieking, and making lots of noise.  jasper, this month you found your voice, too, with lots of babbling and bird noises.  i took the photo above the other day and i love it because it is so typical of right now.  maeve you are working on some food at the counter, jasper you are bopping in the saucer, and hobbes is close by.  he loves you both so much.

i struggle to get many photos of the two of you together because either my phone isn't close, or i don't have enough hands, or you are zooming around (miss maeve).  but i have a few from a morning at the beach.  just digging rocks into our new bucket...
i love your expression maeve and your little foot poking out mr. jasper!
and here is one of you doing tummy time together.  maeve, whenever you see jasper on his mat you announce that it is tummy time and have to join him.  so far no one has been trampled or crushed...
ok so jasper…here we go.  you are a big beautiful guy...
this month brought someone who loves the exersaucer.  you usually get in it, spit up a bit, and then play like crazy...
most mornings we bring you into our bed after your feeding around 6 and you rest until you are ready to get up. you have been waking up once or twice in the night. and you go to sleep around 7 at night...
you love going out and about on adventures.  you are so chill, just hanging on a blanket or in your seat taking it all in...
you are still swaddled and almost always get your arms free in the night.  i took this photo of you in new harbor, because you actually look little to me here...
unlike here.  oh jasperpants, just look at you…you are heaven...
here you are just chilling on the floor, rocking your maine onesie...

we don't use the carrier that often, because usually we are strolling with the whole crew.  but i love to snuggle you up whenever i can.  just like maeve at this age, you love look around at the world...

and this just feels like you.  a slightly concerned look, doughy hands, wearing stripes, soft cheeks, and super mellow. sigh.
this past month has been a sweet one.  you are a cuddle bug.  you manage to pinch us with those chubby fingers.  you've started daycare and they adore you there…and you've adjusted beautifully.  you had adventures to the art museum, the clam festival, royal river park, the beach almost every day, chebeague, new harbor, and out on boat rides.  sadly, this month you had croup…but you handled it so well.  you are ticklish and giggly.  and you love looking in the mirror.  you smile and laugh and think your reflection is pretty great.  you love the swing.  you love your pacifier.  and you love your thumb.  all is good.

and now for you miss maeve.  this month can best be described by ringlet curls, an amazing amount of words, a skinny little lady, tons of outside play, and new teeth.  here we go.

yogurt skin treatments...
sunglass time..
playing with chalk...
you love drawing sunshines with chalk...
watching the tortoise (or tur-tur as you call it) across the street...
running through royal river park...
quiet time...
teething (at least 4 new teeth this month)...
riding the ferry to chebeague...
and riding it back 30 minutes later...
mount holyoke sweatshirt duo and bedhead...
the big boy headband, still in heavy rotation...
hanging out at the clam festival...
ah that's better...

and we went together on the big slide at the clam festival.  you loved it!

still being ambidextrous...
resting on mom during a boat ride...
picking blueberries...
and hiding mouse (on of your favorite toys) in dad's shoes...
and this month nana took a picture of asa on the tractor.  you talk about "ace" practically every day.  when showed you this photo on my phone, you started licking my iphone...
we aren't exactly sure what is going on here, but it's too cute not to share...

maeve, this month has been filled with water.  you love the water table at school, your times at the beach, washing your hands, playing in the tub, drinking water (you just figured out the bendy straw), and being in the rain.  you learned about thunder and don't particularly like it.  you know hundred of words--colors, objects, names, and favorite things.  you also state that everything is yours…maeve's ____.  half as a statement and half as a question.  you are stringing together words (ice cream cone, oh man, police car, fire hydrant, found it, all done, and more).  you are soaking up information and certainly have a lot to say.

you love your time with our neighbors, still talk about when we saw a deer, and have a blast at daycare (you talk about your friends, love riding the plasma car, brought isabelle's tortoise in for a visit, and are doing really well at drop off).  you really like playing with the little people and their house.

maeve, you've been busy and amazing.  i'm in awe of your strong muscles, big brain, and deep curiosity.  i'm impressed by how you tell us what you want and need.  i'm especially grateful for how well you've done with jasper…welcoming him into our family and having him around.

and now for some group adventures.  we all went up to new harbor for a weekend, which was lots of fun.  it included an early morning horse ride...
beachcombing...
getting on our tiptoes to see out of papaw's boat...
looking for birds and boats...
taking selfies...
cruising around the boat in your life jacket...
wading out in the warm water...
pointing at buoys...
eating popcorn (a new favorite)...
meeting cousin emerson...
early morning oatmeal with deedee...
sleeping soundly in the cabin of the boat...
and the dyer boys…just relaxing...
you two have made me really appreciate how close we are to the ocean.  nearly every day we walk to madeleine point to splash, collect stones, find starfish, watch the boats, and play.  maeve, you are a nature lover...
always collecting treasures and picking up pieces of nature...
we go through lots of outfits, because you love going in the water as soon as you see it...
here we are playing with nami as the sun sets...
and enjoying the water's edge...
we had a really special afternoon at kettle cove in cape elizabeth a few weeks ago with friends.  the tide was very low and you both loved the fresh cool air.  maeve you went exploring...
and filled your pockets with stones...
this video is blurry, which is partially why i love it.  but mostly i just love those little feet in the sand...

and you and a seagull had a staring contest, which dad and jasper captured on camera.  it was hilarious...
i don't exactly know how to start to sum up this month.  it's been filled with outside time, heading back to work, new words and actions from both of you every single day.  it's been incredible.  you both bring me such love and happiness.  i recently rewatched the video of when you first met one another in the hospital.  you both have changed so drastically in just four months…and so have i.

i feel like i owe you both an immense thank you.  you are simultaneously what fills me up and where i pour my energy.  a sweet circle.  and a full heart.  since i'm a little late posting this month i already have a glimpse into what this next month looks like…and it is the two of you starting to interact.  it burns my eyes and steals my breath.  yes! you have one another to explore this world with, but first you must get to know each other.  brother and sister.  jasper and maeve.  twenty one and four.
