nineteen months and two months...

here we stand at nineteen months and two months with green trees around us, warmer days, and so much love.  maeve, i'll start with you.  you've been rocking all kinds of patterns lately, as seen above.

this past month has brought with it so much development.  new words and animal sounds, identifying so many loved ones in pictures and in person, speed and busyness, and crazy things at daycare (like sleeping in a sleeping bag, sitting for circle time, and hugging friends when saying goodbye).  what a month!  it was filled with…

drinking lots of beet, cucumber, carrot, lemon, apple juice...
trampolining with friends...
hanging out in [dry] diapers that look enormous on your little body after silly bath times with dad...
learning that we can't bring non-board books into bed...
handmade crafts (complete with a booger on it) for mother's day...
crazy hairdos after going to bed with wet/damp hair...
looking out the window for "momos" (motorcycles) before bed...
a teensy ponytail on the morning that you took my face turned it towards yours and kissed me on the mouth...
deciding that you'd stay in your room and we'd move downstairs...
hanging out in hobbes' doghouse, because he's not using it and has only ever been in there once...
this month you learned same-same, you did this a lot…

you became more and more addicted to cheese, started signing "more" which we never taught you, weighed in at 21 lbs (watch out, jasper is not far behind), became attached to your baby doll, had some struggles with letting other kids take turns on the slide, practiced screeeeching and blowing raspberries, like having your pacifier when we go for rides in the stroller, point to the chair next to your highchair and repeat "mama…mama" until i come sit next to you, ask for "saspah"(jasper) when you first wake up and when you hear him cry and when i pick you up from daycare.  you've been so good with jasper.  you pick up his pacifier whenever you find it and bring it to me or him.  you smile when you see him.  it melts me.  you've been such an incredible big sister…probably because jasper is so awesome!

and speaking of awesome, you had your first ice cream cone from toots with dee-dee (our new name for grandma).  you loved it and it was the cutest little 75 cent ice cream cone i've ever seen…

the cold felt good because you are getting more teeth...
you also loved the ramp, which you wanted to walk up and down with your drippy cone...
and this video is up there as one of my favorite little clips.  it's just so sweet and so you and so that day...

and now for you little (or big!) jasper…

you are a rockstar of a sleeper.  you've been sleeping through the night since i last wrote and you love a good long nap along with some cat naps during the day...
we bring you outside while playing in the backyard and give you a spot in the shade, with an extra towel if anyone wants to join you...
we've been starting to read and this photo of your warped reflection in the mirror makes me laugh...
i took this photo of us during a walk on little john island.  i hope you grow to love it there as much as i do...
we completed our birthroots group and took the obligatory baby pinwheel photo.  you are bottom right in the awesome shark outfit. is it me or do you look like the big guy on campus? i mean look at all those  other little sleepy worms...
you got some playtime with little neddy...
we take lots of pictures to send to nana and dee-dee...
you've been wearing your sunhat almost everyday on our outside adventures...
you smile and coo and babble.  oh that gummy grin...
you've grown so much that i had to cut a whole in the bottom of your sleep sack swaddle...
i mean you are a big boy, man boobs and all...
you love tummy time and prop yourself up and gaze around and then roll over...
jasper, you are a delight.  a sweet and easy going guy.  man oh man are we glad you are here.  xo.

we took our first family trip to new harbor over memorial day weekend and had such a fun time.  we went to pemaquid beach with dee-dee...
we had the beach to ourselves for most of the time...
and jasper enjoyed the breezy ocean air...
this video isn't the best quality, but it shows what you loved doing over and over again.  oh a beach and a pail…

later we saw lots of boats and went down on the float...
primo boat hunting spot...
maeve, you climbed into the little row boat that was on the dock...

and jasper, you kicked dee-dee and papaw out of their bed for the weekend...
we found jeffrey, dad's baby doll from his childhood...
and introduced him to baby...
we admired papaw...
took a morning stroll...
and picked flowers...
this month has also brought so much playtime outside.  at our house, with friends, at becky's swing set, at sandy point, and a madeleine point.  you are two lucky kiddos to have such a great and big "backyard"…

vroom vroom...
weeeeeeeee…
playing corn hole...
enjoying watermelon with friends...
exploring...
pretending to be a barnacle...
snoozing...
climbing the boat ramp...
snoozing again...
watching with disbelief with your friend mylah as two rocks went kerplunk in the ocean...
playing in the water...
queen of the mountain...
and enjoying the swing...

at nineteen and two we still need lots of help to get through the day, which means out house is filled with the love of friends and family.  you two bring so much joy to your grandparents, neighbors, to each other and to us.  it feels like we are in this place of constant disbelief in who you two are becoming.  at times i want to freeze us right here (in our peaceful moments) and then i remember how it just keeps getting better and better.  maeve, you showed us that a smile becomes a coo becomes a babble become a sound becomes a word…a word that you know and understand.  it's exciting to imagine that jasper will be changing like you have.  and it's hard to even imagine the goodness that lies ahead of us.  changes and experiences that we can't even grasp.  it's simultaneously the most exciting thing i can think of and puts a lump in my throat.  but the now is what it is all about.  i love the now. big time.

as we head into summer, here's to chubby babies in diapers, toddler legs in shorts, hours of playing outside, and many more visits to the ice cream stand.  xo.
