at seventeen and a half months...

this post is long overdue, but you see...we've been busy over here in these parts.  but before we introduce our new bambino, let's take a walk through the past month an a half.  i'd say it's been defined by a few things...more hair, an obsession with boats, and exploring the great outdoors.  but all of that requires sustenance, right!?!  we've spent lots of time at the island eating...
and dinnertime is now accompanied by long shadows of longer days...
we think you might be a lefty and you are doing so well with your utensils...
you are your mother's daughter, loving annie's mac and cheese with your whole heart...
and sometimes eating requires a sweatband...
of course all of this independent eating means lots of baths are needed...
mr. hobbes is always interested/coming over for a drink during bath time...
and you join him for a drink.  cheers (also one of your favorite things to do with a glass)...
at seventeen months you got so much hair that dad simply HAS to do silly things to your hair...
this past month has brought an active active lady our way.  you love pulling out all of your toys, reading all of your books, and buzzing all over the house...
back at it with the sweatband while rehydrating from some hard play...
and most of my photos look like this because you are always on the move...
your buddy august came over to play this month...
and then there is always dad who loves to play before bedtime...
and now that i'm on maternity leave, we get to play during the whole day.  here we are in your book nook...
sneak peek!!!  there is someone resting in your crib while we play in your room and get ready for bed!
we spend the better part of each day playing with, hunting for, and reading about BOATS.  you are obsessed.  you find boats in books that we didn't even know had boats.  you walk our street and point out all of the various boats you see (canoes, kayaks, motor boats, upside down boats, shrink-wrapped boats).  you see a triangle and think it's a boat.  you see the warning label on things with the triangle and the exclamation point and think it's a sail...
you get your books and turn to the boat pages, "boat...boat" you say with enthusiasm and surprise each and every time...
dad couldn't be more thrilled. he's clearly found his first mate...

and a silly one at that.  what a monkey, what a funny funny girl...
and what a sweet lady you are.  happy.  joyful.  radiant.
and we see so much of this through your play and daily ongoings.  you wake up so happy, you play hard, you let us know when you need a nap.  and through it all that smile and awesome laugh.

jo gave you a parachute and you love when we play with it and really like being underneath it.  we can't wait to have friends over this summer to play with this outside...
and after all that hard play comes resting in the crib with your puppy...
and resting with your real puppy...
but what you two like most is to get outside and hit the streets and the woods...
we had quite the long winter, with snow into april, so you were always bundled up...
while there was still snow on the ground you were mainly in the stroller...
but once the snow melted you've been cruising around.  you and your shadow...
you love walking our street...
and skipping along at madeleine point...
on the day before i went into labor, i was off from work and you and i spent the full day together.  we took a special trip to wolfe's neck farm to see the animals...
you really loved watching all the chickens...
and now that we have longer days, we try to get outside before dinner.  here you are helping out with lawn chores...
and this photo just feels like you right now...with long hair, patagonia gear, your little toms shoes, and that tongue wiggling around...
and yesterday you got a taste of what this summer will bring when we ventured to madeleine point with our pail and spent some time throwing rocks in the water.  you are a lucky girl to live by the water...
kerplunk...
and here are just two little videos that sum up the past few days.  playing on the slide with nana...

and playing ball with hobbes...

maeve, this past month has brought so many emotions for me and such a changing little you.  your words are coming along and i love seeing you communicate.

you love saying dada and being silly together.  you love yogurt.  you love the sign for all done.  you love to splash in the bath.  you love playing with shoes.  you love brushing your teeth.  you love the book nook.  you love having things to hold in your hand during diaper changes.  you love friends at school.  you love inspecting earrings.  and you love when we talk about wind and i blow gently in your face.  you love these things and thousands of other small things.

and now you have a sibling, who you love to look at and love to listen to.  you are working on his name.  you are showing him your world.  and for me it's been an overwhelming wash of love and watching the two of you.  sometimes it's hard to look at you without getting a little sad that our time when it was just you is a thing of the past...and that i can't give you 100% of my attention, but you are doing so well.  things are different and changing and better.  we have more love.  more chaos.  more humor.  more diapers to change.  more help from nana and grandma.  and with the blessings of maternity leave, we have more time together.  what a gift!

keep going girlie, i'm right there with you.  your biggest fan, always!
