at fifteen months...

hello miss maeve.  you are fifteen months old.  we had your checkup the other day and you were bombing around the doctor's office in your diaper babbling, inspecting everything, and wiggling all over the place.  fifteen month has brought someone with opinions and someone who can do it herself, let's you know what she wants, and who is on the move.

here you are busting a move while eating your dinner...
aside from letting us feed you yogurt or if you are distracted by something, you love feeding yourself.  lately blueberries, raspberries, cottage cheese, and hummus seem to be favorites...
here you are practicing your two handed wave, while waiting for breakfast...
and goofing off...
and showing off how flexible you are with feet on the table (this photo makes you look so old, i think because your face looks thinned out and that hair makes you look all grown up)...
you were lucky enough to recently get to spend two nice chunks of time with your grandparents on both sides.  first, we went up to visit nana and popsie for weekend, while dad was away.  you loved reading with nana after your bath...

and you and popsie laughed a lot together...

we took hobbes for long walks along beauchamp point...

and you got to ride on poppies' tractor...which you didn't really love all that much.  maybe this summer?
next up was a weekend with grandma and papaw at our house while we went away to washington, dc for a little getaway before your new sibling is born.  you had a blast showing grandma and papaw your routine and all your tricks.  you spent a little time rocking the bassinet where your new sibling will hang out...
you had a lazy saturday in your jammies...
you gave your stuffed animal some love while waiting for a meal...
you rocked your vest and did puzzles...
you got bundled up and went out for a walk with hobbes and papaw...
and then you and papaw took a water break...
it's been a fast month and a month filled with so much newness.  while we were away for the weekend, we came home and you had all kinds of new sounds and words.  you are still loving the book nook, infatuated with your elephant humidifier, and obsessed with hobbes.  you fit into my lap less and less.  you love pointing at and touching our noses.  you get sad during daycare transitions, which is heartbreaking.  your hair is getting so long, which is especially noticeable in the bathtub.  you hate having your nose wiped.  whenever anything is on the ground you say "uh-ohhh" even if it didn't fall but is just there.  you are down to one nap a day.  you get really excited watching your solar bear that dances on sunny days.  and you love a good tune.

maeve, i'm entering into that place of disbelief that soon you'll be a big sister.  soon you'll be my first child...not my only child.  soon, our world will change.  i can't even imagine that you'll come visit us at the hospital...weren't we just there with you, a wee you...a mere six pounds and eight ounces?  and soon i'll be continuously reminded of just how much you taught me since that cold november day.

and maeve d. what do you think, is it a boy or a girl?  both seem wildly exciting and i can't even imagine what that will be like...for me, for you, for dad, for our family.  to imagine is simply guessing and trying to frame something that i can't know until it is real.  and even then...i'll be surprised, over and over and over again.  how could i have ever imagined you? all of that silliness...all of that happiness...all of that sweet little person that you are.

here is to fifteen incredible months, a love for you that is infinite, and another person for you to share your love with.

Maeve has grown up to be a beautiful little girl and the excitement of your new addition is so special. You had me in tears because I know the love you feel for Maeve... How can that be replicated? Oh but it will be!!
