at forty nine weeks...

at forty nine weeks fall was in full effect, so we raked up a big pile of leaves and plopped you down in in to play.  you loved crinkling the leaves in your hands and patting the leaves all around you.  and then, a friend joined you...
this weekend was so beautiful.  lots of time outside.  lots of leaves...
at forty nine weeks you are on the move.  no longer army crawling, but up on all fours and getting around...
and you've outgrown you fleece suit, but you look so cute in it that we crammed you in just one more time...

at forty nine weeks you went on a special adventure to little diamond island with rachael and the boys.  here you are on the ferry apparently talking up a storm...
and minutes later you arrived...
here you are having your breakfast and watching the casco bay lines go by...
and rug modeling...
rachael took you on a really long walk through trails...
and down to the sea...
it was such a beautiful day, with the sun beaming down, that you guys build some sandcastles...

teamwork...
here you are back on the mainland after we got to see each other for a few minutes at the ferry terminal during lunch...

you and august were like feral cats when rachael turned her back for two seconds.  together you tipped over your bag, poured out the contents, were eating diapers, and prying open your formula jar.  another example of teamwork...
this weekend we took lots of walks in the woods.  this time of year reminds me so much of a year ago, when each weekend dad and i would take loooong walks with hobbes, wondering when you were going to arrive.  and now, here you are.  the happiest girl on cousins island, seen here giving dad a smile during your walk...

just cruising along...
this weekend we celebrated august's first birthday.  in celebration you wore your most colorful outfit...
at forty nine weeks i took a photo of you asleep in your carseat after a drive from portland.  you looked so peaceful and also so big.  everything seems long...your face, your arms, your body.  a big girl...
and speaking of long, look at those lashes...
miss maeve, at forty nine weeks we had all kinds of first.  i found you sucking your teeny little thumb in your carseat and found you standing in your crib when you woke up from a nap.  these small things are big things...and remind me that this next year is going to be new things every single day.  it's nearly impossible to change you as you wiggle all over, curious about what else you can explore.  so sometimes you crawl off diaperless...which i love.  you scurry around on the floor simply delighted.

i'm overwhelmed with emotions this week...which i attribute to you approaching the one year mark, being pregnant, loving you so fiercely, and the goodness that surrounds us.  xo.

at forty eight weeks...

this was the week of foods.  you love using your little pinchers, picking up treats, and popping them in your mouth.  when you are done you usually drop lots of the floor...you haven't quite figured out that you are feeding hobbes yet, but he's certainly figured it out.  from peas to strawberries...yogurt drops to puffs, lady you are all over it.  and we also managed to get food all over you during eating and bib removal...
dad captured this one of you eating green beans.  look at those eyes...only slightly terrified...
when you aren't eating you love spending time in your chair, playing with toys...
entertaining the crowd...
and being a colorful model...
at forty eight weeks you get around.  you cruise over to the stairs and pull yourself up on the first step.  you can get yourself from the kitchen up into the living room.  and you had a scary run in with the lady bug below...we pushed her over your way while you were crawling and you burst into tears when you came face-to-face...
at forty eight weeks we took lots of strolls.  your little ears were too much for me to handle on a recent walk at twinbrook...
i couldn't help but cradle your little face in my hands...
we took a nice walk to madeleine point after work.  dad was away this week, so we went to check to make sure his boat was still there...
here you are at daycare drop-off...
and all bundled up in your little fleece suit...
at forty eight weeks we found a jumparoo at a yardsale and boing, boing, boing...you are on the move...
you've been grabbing lots of books lately and doing some reading...
at forty eight weeks you had a great time at daycare.  you pulled yourself around the kitchen...

had mealtime and strawberry sharing with your buddy...
posed next to an m (for maeve) mug that made your eyes look so blue...
hung out on the floor and did some semi-clothed reading...
at forty eight weeks we found you sitting up in your crib and also pulling yourself up onto your knees.  what a big lady.  you also pulled yourself up onto your footstool and worked your way around.  you were so proud and you could see how much you were working to get there.

this week one of your notes from daycare said you were very silly that day, which i just love.  you giggle so much and love being playful with dad.  we had a good time this weekend doing the wa-wa-wa-wa sound, where i put my fingers by your mouth and patted your lips.  you figured out how to make the sound and just loved it.  i got my hand licked multiple times in the process.  i love watching you learn and figure things out.

maeve d., i just look and you and smile and i'm in disbelief that we are approaching your first birthday.  oh but that a post for a few weeks from now.  until then we'll keep talking and singing and dancing.  xo.

at forty seven weeks...

at forty seven weeks we had a dyer family getaway.  how nice to be all together in the white mountains and to get to take you around to where grandma and papaw lived over forty years ago.  this week was filled with speedy crawling, a drippy nose, falling in love again with the girl in the mirror, lots of bouncing, hitting the eleven month mark, and wishing a few of your baby friends a happy first birthday.

our time away reminded me just how close we are to new hampshire and how good it feels to be away...even though it takes a while to pack the car with portable cribs, strollers, books, toys, food, clothes, and gear.  i'm inspired to get some more getaways on the calendar.  my dear my list of places i want to go with you and things i want to see with you is growing and growing.

and speaking of growing, look at you in the hiking backpack.  when you learned where we were headed, you were a tad skeptical...
but then you saw the scenery...
and you quickly loved the adventure and the view from up high...
and a big thanks to uncle evan who helped carry you part of the way...

in exchange for the lift, you provided your sherpas with neck and head massages.  seemed like a fair trade.  once at the summit, we got you some food and then you and grandma went off and found some pine needles and pinecones to play with...
you stayed awake for almost the whole hike.  dad said you were talking and talking the whole way down, until suddenly you weren't anymore.  here you are crashed out, face jammed against your toy, and slumped over.  hiking is hard work...
and after the hike and before things got cooking at the fire pit, we sat you in the canoe.  even out of the water you almost tipped over.  maybe next year...
at forty seven weeks we went to the fryeburg fair.  we went through all the livestock barns...
and made some friends...
here are just a few random scenes from forty seven weeks.  back at it with the circulars and paper shredding...
a nice post-bath walk before sunset...
some floor play and a maeve attack...
some modeling before daycare and work...
the yarmouth bookworm...
and at forty seven weeks, daycare was filled with adorable highchair shots and cuteness...
and looking oh so girly with the pink and white stripped curtains and your matching bib and berry face. i look at this photo and can hear you fake coughing...
this photos came through on my phone and my oh my you look really big to to me (and gah look at those chubby feet)...
and this picture captures just how proud you are at being able to get around...
maeve, this week i was reminded over and over just how happy you are.  whether waking from a nap or being awoken from a nap...you just beam.  the folks at daycare comment on how silly, playful, happy, and smiley you are.  and i've notice how much you like to make us laugh.  you are quite the entertainer and one wiggly dancer. from your seat at the counter you can see when someone walks in the front door.  you peer around and then squeal with delight.  you make our visitors feel really good and really loved.

each night before bed we play in your room.  we crawl around, babble, read, roll, play with toys, and then i say m-a-e-v-e...maeve!  i used to walk you over to the flags in your rooms with the letters of your name on them when i said this...and now i just say the letters and you turn around from wherever you are to look and sometimes point to the flags.  our time in your room is just that...time.  at the end of a day where we've often both been other places, we slide the pocket door closed and just play together.  it's a time i love so dearly.  so so dearly.  xo.
