at thirty weeks...

at thirty weeks there was a lot of laughter.  you not only laugh when we tickle you, but you laugh on your own...when you see us, out of delight, after being surprised, when seeing your reflection in the mirror, when playing peek-a-boo, and for no apparent reason at all.

you sit up unattended.  you love touching the pictures while we read.  you love the song morning bird by forest sun...and usually drift off to sleep when you hear it in the car.  you have more hair...a light brown that looks blonde in the sun.  you love prunes and sweet potatoes...you didn't love golden beets on the first try, but gobbled them up the second time. this week you were at the table with us in your highchair.  we were eating dinner and suddenly you started watching us and smacking your lips and chewing.  we handed you a big piece of frozen mango and you tried your best.  you still like looking at the baby in the mirror, but you get distracted by the other things you see.  next to your changing table i have a bunch of colorful pictures and this week you are looking and reaching for them like never before.  you love when we walk up to your name banner and i say m-a-e-v-e...MAEVE.  you often look over at it and then look back at me, waiting for me to do it.  you are almost ready for your next box of clothes. you had your first facetime call with friends...and during the call learned that they are expecting a baby...hooooooray!  you went to mom and me yoga with some friends.

at thirty weeks you had lots of adventures with hobbes.  you decided to put your allergies aside and invite hobbes up on the bed for a morning scratch...
and then hobbes decided to get up on our bay window.  oh mr. pants...
hobbes likes being nearby wherever you are.  i think he's going to be your faithful reading companion...
we took lots of stroller rides and gave hobbes good, long, and wild walks in the woods...
at thirty weeks you got nautical...sort of.  we tried on your life jacket, which was a start. this was about the happiest you looked during the try-on...
i was so tempted to pick you up by the handle and carry you around, but instead took this picture below. i love your little hands and those big eyes...
we spent a few afternoons and evenings down at the float at madeleine point helping dad.  we love it down there...
you and ben hung out while dad rowed out to the boat...
at thirty weeks, you turned seven months old.  seven. months. old.  wow.  you seemed equally amazed...
at thirty weeks you had two fun days with rachael, wilder, and august.   you got a little glamorous...
and then got back out into nature with your buddies...
you two have logged some miles on that double stroller...
the photo below came with the caption "she's sweet as pie, but snores like an old man!"...
and speaking of snoring, you've been doing really well sleeping.  i put you to bed in our room one night and when we came up to go to bed you were all cozy, hat partially over your eyes, and making the sweetest little sounds...
the other morning i wasn't sure about what you needed for outerwear, so i tried this move: the hooded cape.  you looked pretty badass walking into daycare.  just saying...

at thirty weeks i snapped another one of my favorite photos, seen below.  i have about ten pictures from since you were born that i just adore and about another thousand that melt my sappy heart.  i especially love that you are wearing your pants from your friends in arizona.  exhibit a...
on sunday morning we took a walk at little john.  you slept for most of the walk.  i took my time, sometimes just find a pretty spot and standing there rocking back and forth looking out at the water.  and then suddenly you were awake.  i looked down and this is what i saw looking back at me, which doesn't quite do it justice...
i tried to get a side angle, but all this shows is a little too much cleavage and that patch of kinky coarse white hairs that i got about the time i learned i was pregnant.  oh well...

at thirty weeks we tried to deliver some irises to a new neighbor, but she wasn't home.  you were so intrigued by the flashes of purple.  we managed to get them to her later, along with some extra furniture that we had.  i'm so so so excited to have some extra space to just let you crawl around and play...and to have dance parties in...
at thirty weeks there are two things you love a lot.  books...

and your dad.  you make the greatest face when you can hear his voice or his footsteps before you can actually see him...oh and then you light up with recognition.  lucky girl...
and this photo below is going to be used for a special father's day present that we are working on.  ooooo-la-la...
miss maeve, you are thriving...and you are so very happy.  there are so many moment that i always want to remember and just never want to lose...but this week it is the feeling when i open my eyes in the morning and there you are, looking over, smile visible behind your pacifier, eyes squinting, your body nestled in with mine all warm and snug.

i remember your nana telling me that when i was little i always used to try to crawl up into her lap during dinner or would try to bat at the newspaper if she was reading it in the morning in an attempt to climb up into her arms.  she would place me back in my chair.  i remember the day just a few years ago that she told me that she wished she'd always just held me and let me climb up...wish she hadn't pushed me away during those moments.  which is breathtaking...meaning it literally takes my breath.  so with that in mind, i'm soaking in it and soaking it in.  it won't be forever, so i'm going to get it while the getting is good.

maeve d. keep up the good work. xo.

  1. Oh, thanks for the picture of her in the pants! I was afraid that her skinny diaper butt might never fit into them...if the waist needs taking in, I can tell you an easy way to do it.

I'm also thankful you said she was 7 months old, because as silly as it sounds, I never did the calculations and always think of her as really itty bitty still...but she is growing and becoming such a fun little person!
