this had me laughing...

i love this picture so much.  i can't tell whom i love more from this visit to the vet...the big scared dog or the owner who carries his dog like a child.  poor guys...both of them!

cheesy hearts...

ravioli hearts?  does it get any sweeter?  imagine sitting down for dinner on some random tuesday in april or june to this for dinner?
i'd add rao's sauce, a yummy salad with honey sesame sticks, and a baguette from standard baking.  side note/question: making ravioli seems fairly easy (but so did these)...has anyone tried?

trails through the snow...

hobbes and i spent the first part of the weekend making trails through the 8-10 inches of snow that fell at sugarloaf.  it was so fun (it actually felt like winter!) and in the end we were exhausted!  i'd like to think our trails were as beautiful as the patterns made by sonja hinrichsen...but they weren't.
p.s. these snow patterns remind me of these.

dream bedroom...

i love the lath wall above and the wooden headboard below...
right now our mattress and boxspring are on the floor as we live in our temporary bedroom, so these pictures are especially inspiring!

life in the back seat...

this past weekend o accused me of "back seat vacuuming" back seat driving, but worse.  the nerve.  have you ever heard such a ludicrous accusation? and has anyone in history ever been called that?

p.s. i was being bossy and deserved it.

anadama french toast...

step one: buy a loaf of anadama bread from d'ellie's at sugarloaf...

step two: cut a piece and cut a little heart out of the middle...

step three: dip the pieces in egg, milk, and cinnamon and put in a pan...
step four: drizzle with maple syrup and devour...

a ski weekend...

this weekend we went skiing for the first time all winter, which is crazy's mid-february!  i had a blast.  i only skied on saturday, but i realized just how far i've come as a skier...i used to be afraid on greens...then i was terrified of blues...and now i do blues pretty well. (except when i think i might have been lied to and tricked onto a black).
that afternoon i took hobbes on a walk up the burnt mountain trail.  he loved it, especially when he met another dog with the exact same play style.  they jumped all over each other and rolled around in the snow and then it was time to go home.

that night we were all beat!  here's to an outdoor winter weekend!

mini pies...

i look at these mini pies from smitten kitchen and i start dreaming.  they could be filled with apples, or cheese, or both...or lots of other things!  today i'm feeling chicken pot pie meets indian samosa.  you know nothing says long weekend like delicious food!

what would your mini pie be filled with on this fine friday?

talking yesterday about books and art made me think of the the book i gave myself for jill from santa!  farm anatomy is a beautifully illustrated book about life on a farm.  the illustrator and author explains styles of barns, how to plow a field, and the beautiful types of squash...and so many other parts and pieces of the farm.  it is the kind of book that you want to be inside.  i think about my 4-H days, raising pheasants, and gardening...and i'm ready to buy the farm.  farmer o, you in?

my ideal bookshelf...

a friend recently sent me the link to an artist who does illustrations of your ideal bookshelf.  there are books that i would pick to be on my ideal bookshelf because of the artwork and colors on the spine...there are others that would be on the shelf for the sheer love of the book.

a few that would be included for sure would be: the red tent, extremely loud and incredibly close, a few anne lamott books...i could go on and on.

what would be on your ideal bookshelf?

twenty nine notes...

happy valentine's day.  the photo above is pretty close to my february new year's resolution (this year i made a resolution a month).  i decided that over the course of the month i would write 29 notes, one for each day, to unsuspecting friends.  it's been fun so far.  i wouldn't really call them valentines.  rather, i think of them as mailbox brightener-uppers and a hug in an envelope!

national toboggan championships...

this weekend we drove to camden for the national toboggan championships at the camden snowbowl.  contestants zip down the chute and out onto hosmer pond...really fast!  the crazy dudes above are my brother (in the back) and two of his best friends on their handmade toboggan.

the tents, the costumes, the snow, the music, the people, and the dogs make it especially fun for spectators.  oh and hobbes loved it!

little rock...

sorry for no post yesterday, i was in little rock, arkansas...a first.  we were there visiting the headquarters of heifer international, which was fascinating.  the space was filled with artwork from betty laduke, interesting exhibits, and visuals of the good work they do.

i left little rock wishing we'd had more time to explore their learning center, central high school, and the clinton library, museum, and school of public service.

this place is proof that throwing a little rock into a big pond makes a HUGE difference in the world.

the days are getting longer.  over the weekend i stopped on the bridge to capture the sunset.  i am eager for the longer days...for days when we have hours of sunlight after work to take long long walks by the water with my guys.

i notice when i leave work that the sky is a bit brighter each day.  minute by minute...and soon it will be spring!

up close...

doesn't the image above look like a piece of art?  it's actually human blood magnified 400x.  so i guess in a way it is art! it looks so simple and so pretty.  i just love this.

worn in...

the flooring process was made possible by o's dad, who lent us all the necessary tools.  thanks tom!  this was one of his toolboxes...a worn in l.l. bean bag.  a really worn in bag!  here is to well made things that last...and look badass in the process.

the bonfire...

here is a timelapse video of the bonfire we had after our wedding.  i love watching people come and go, dogs showing up, and the pulse of the fire.  thanks mike!

p.s. here is the link to another timelapse from the wedding in case you missed it.

this is hobbes...

this video is the present i gave o for christmas.  it was a surprise and i think he liked it a lot.  it was a non-traditional, yet meaningful gift.  sorry for my delay in posting this!

i met alex, the talented storyteller who made the video, last summer when he won a contest to travel around the world with the company i work for.  alex has a quirky sense of humor, the ability to tell a great story, a voice made to be  on this american life or the moth.  more than that he perfectly captured hobbes!  thanks alex.
