for nami...

last week i went to new york for work and got to meet nami, our friends' new baby girl.  in preparation for my visit i made this for her (which i have made for a few other friends in the past)...
i decided to stitch in a little heart for little nami (seen here before finishing the edges)...
and then later that night, look what showed up on my sewing machine case...a little dust heart at the top of the b!
hearts...they are everywhere!

flooring (part three)...

hello friends.  welcome to the third (and final!) post on our new floor.  a special thanks to hobbes for being a willing floor model and helper throughout the process.

on day three we laid out the flooring...

started the puzzle...
and then got a little nervous that we were going to run out of wood, so we laid out the remaining rows...

and here is hobbes acting super cool as o put in the last piece!
day three was great...mainly because it was the end!
but really because we completed the floor with just this much extra...can you say close call?
i smell a dance party!

just a quick reminder...

we had more fun with the cinnamon alphabet graham crackers from trader joe's than i imagined possible...worth the couple dollars we spent on these!  what's rocking in your world right now?

the sunny side...

someone is enjoying his new room and his spot in the sun...
here's to vitamin d and gathering up all your toys before taking a warm nap...
(side note: the yellow chicken toy is the only to survive hobbes' puppyhood...thanks t & t!)

flooring (part two)...

day one of flooring taught us a lot, so while we were stiff beyond belief we managed to crank through day two like rockstars!  every so often, i would look up and out at the floor at our progress.  sometimes i felt pain, sometimes i was in awe of the beautiful colors and patterns, but mostly i was just incredibly proud.  we ended the weekend exhausted, but pleased with our work.

day two!!!

flooring (part one)...

this weekend we started laying our hardwood floor.  as a quick refresher, here is what the white room looked like when we started.  we selected tigerwood, which looks beautiful!  my brother, ian, came to help us get started.
i was in charge of selecting the wood, keeping the floor clean, making sure we were using all the various sized planks, making sure things continued to look random, and some measuring.  o was responsible for hammering the planks into place and nailing them in.  ugh...poor guy!
we set ourselves up for the next day...
we worked all day, did about a quarter of the room, and could barely walk at the end of our first flooring experience.  here is o using all he had left to hold up one finger...showing how far we got on day one.

pinhole press...

we ordered our parents photo albums and calendars from pinhole press for christmas and they were so beautiful.  i would highly highly recommend this company for anyone looking for beautiful images on thick paper.  we were so pleased and the gifts were a huge hit! you get to layout the photos into set templates and boom...a few days later they arrive in the mail.

i'm already looking forward to making a big album for us...maybe by our first anniversary, which is paper...and that seems appropriate, right?!

i'm curious...what company has provided really great customer service to you lately?

it's officially winter in maine...

while i was in asia, o got my remote car starter set up.  this happened just in time for our first big snow. i've been enjoying the white covering for a few reasons, but most of all it lets me have a view into the world of this crazy animal...
mr. hobbes seems to make more sense when there is snow on the ground.  without snow i have no idea why he sniffs certain places and run in various directions, but with the snow i can see the tracks of other animals, the yellow snow, and some of the logic for his animal ways.

this year's snow beard is pretty icicle-tastic.  the sure sign of some good digging and nosing around in the snowbanks.  crazy snow running means crazy snoring at the end of the day!

under a blanket...

this is how i spend the majority of the time at our house...either sleeping under a blanket or nestled under a blanket.  ourhouseisquitecold!  i've found the perfect combination...the weaved blanket that my aunt gave me with an l.l. bean comforter on top...while wearing the slippers christina gave me last year.  not only do i stay warm, but i fall asleep/get cozy and drowsy almost instantly.

the upside of a really chilly house and a shower with luke warm water at best is that i'm motivated to work out at the gym at work where i can get a really hot shower.  sad, but true!

what are your tricks for staying warm in the winter?

half way around the world...

i'm back! i spent the week after the new year in asia visiting seoul and shanghai for work.  i loved seoul...so very much.  it felt peaceful and had a really nice flow...oh and the mountains.  i also had the best dumpling soup i've ever tasted in this lovely city.

shanghai was just bigger than i imagined...more high rise buildings, more people, more hanging laundry, more lights at night, more sprawl, just more.  that said...i can see why people choose to live there.  oh and the parks filled with people doing tai chi in the mornings...i just loved that.

now that i am back at home, the trip sort of feels like something i imagined.  i took very few photos and i bought very few gifts.  my suitcase is unpacked.  hobbes is by my side.  life seems as usual.  the actuality of my trip sits between accomplishing the first of my new year's resolutions and a promise i made myself nearly ten years ago.

i was there...half way around the world!
