do you want a hobbes of your own?

are you and your family interested in getting an airedale pup?  if so, pinnacle farm, where we got hobbes, just had a litter of twelve...twelve!  six males and six females.  the pups were born on february 17th, so they'll be ready to take home after april 14th.  what better way to spend part of your tax return...warm, cuddly, puppy love!  we can't say enough great things about the farm and our experience with hobbes.

if you are interested, contact hannah sawyer at pinnacle farms.  inquiry {at} airedaletale {dot} com.

green circles, blue squares, and golden arches...

hobbes left yesterday afternoon for a week long vacation at my parents' house (thanks mom and dad!). and i depart tomorrow morning for a skiing trip out west with o's family. woot-woot! i handed hobbes off to my dad in a mcdonald's parking lot...which was sad on many levels.  it was different being home by myself last night.  i like it better when my guys are around!

as for my western adventure...i'm excited to explore some new green and blue ski trails, read on my off days, take some photos, start my sweater, hopefully go ice skating at least once, and see o's rocky mountain skiing high.

a walk on little john...

on sunday hobbes and i slept until ten o'clock...ten o'clock! i haven't slept that long in a while!  with all our new energy we threw some ingredients in the crock pot and headed out on our longest walk yet.  we parked on talbot road on cousins and then walked the bridge to little john and down pemasong road to the royal river conservation area.  we usually drive, but enjoyed walking the long dirt road.  we only saw three cars on our whole loop...and we saw an owl land in the trees, which was so beautiful.

we made sure to stop at the clearing and gaze out to chebeague...
when we arrived home, hobbes used what little energy he had left to chew apart one of o's shoelaces and then passed out.  i spent the afternoon writing and watching a movie.  sundays are great...but a sunday of a long weekend is even greater!

and poof they were gone...

on my dad's birthday we also nibbled on these chou a la creme, which were baked by my co-worker's wife.  they were heaven.  a perfectly baked puff, filled with custard flecked with vanilla bean.  they didn't last long and there were lots of oohs and yums and wows as they were consumed.

thanks, kayo!

between the n and the k...

the story goes that my dad and i were home sick the first time plinko ever aired on the price is right.  wikipedia informs me that it was january 3, 1983.  watching the price is right was a given when someone was sick...always.  dad insists that in order to win plinko you have to put the discs/chips between the n and the k.

so for his 60th birthday i made him is very own plinko board.  i measured and painted and created.  take a look...
mom and dad came down and we spent the day together.  we enjoyed cruising into portland for yummy pizza, cuddling with hobbes, and we even played a few games of plinko!  it was lots of fun.

in honor of the price is right, i end by saying...don't forget to have your pets spayed or neutered.

everytime...

every time i see this photo of little amelia i smile.  every. single. time.  i think it would be the perfect book cover, with the title written on her onesie.  i have no idea what the book would be called, but i can just see it on the shelves.   maybe i'll have to write the book and convince her parents to let me use the photo!

hey gang...it's a three day weekend, did you hear?

a new direction...

after almost ten years of designing invitations, stationery, business cards, and more...i'm taking a break for a while...maybe for a really (really) long while!  coming to this decision was a long and at times yucky process, but when i really sat down and thought about where i want to put my energy, what is motivating/inspiring to me right now, and what my goals are for the coming years...design wasn't the answer to any of those questions.  once i realized that, it was incredibly freeing...so it is with excitement that i share this news with you!

if you are looking for someone to help you with invitations, fear not!  i have lots of talented friends who freelance.  just shoot me an email and i'll connect you with one of them.

my office is now just an entirely creative space...for writing, yoga, sewing, crafting, and more!  maybe i need a new name for it...studio, craft room, my nook.  whatever it is called...it is currently in full swing.  right now i am in the midst of making my dad's 60th birthday present, which i can show you next week. and with all my free time i can try to figure out what exactly is living between our first and second floor...a mouse, a squirrel, or something else entirely.  oh jeez.

a very special thanks to each and every person whom i designed something for...
from caren (the first)...to jani (the last)!

hobbes and his buds...

oh you know...just hobbes and norman hanging out at the beach.  i love the focus in the photo above as they are waiting for a stick to be thrown...especially how tall norman is sitting.  and i love the smile on norm's face in the photo below...
this past weekend we explored some favorite dog spots and a new place in cumberland with huge fields, trails, and just tons of space.  hobbes jumped out of the car and was running all over.  we were thrilled just moments later to find lc, hobbes favorite east ender and backseat companion, at this new spot cross-country skiing her heart out! it was chilly, but great to be outside.

swatches...

miss christina gave me a bunch of paint swatches to play with.  i pulled out all the blues and arranged them from light to dark, starting at the top left corner.
i moved them around and switched back and forth until i had it set...
then of course, i changed it around before i started doing this on my office wall...
voila...the finished product!
this is a dream come true...i've wanted to do this since the moment i saw the martha stewart living omnimedia office on television six years ago.  can you imagine a whole wall of this in the full range of colors?

ah but for me...just the blues will do.

opening...

o's mom brought us beautiful irises over the weekend.  they are such a sweet addition to our home.  as we slept on saturday night...magic happened.
and this is what we awoke to on sunday morning...
today they are all open and the colors are so rich.  on a day that is all roses, roses, roses...i'm really enjoying these gorgeous blooms.

wishing each and every one of you an extra dose of love and kindness on this the fourteenth of february!

cuddle time...

the other day o was sitting on the stoop getting ready to lace his bean boots, when hobbes came over to say hello. first hobbes just sniffed around, but then he worked his way under o's arms and wiggled his way right into o's lap. o just held him for a little while. i'm so glad my camera was close.

oh how i love this dog and this guy.

up on the roof...

on sunday o climbed up on the roof with his yaktrax and started shoveling. we've watched alot of america's funniest home videos, so i was a little nervous. temps were in the high 30s to low 40s, so while he didn't need to wear a jacket...he did haul some heavy and wet snow...
where's waldo...
someone sat and watched the whole time...wishing he was up there, too!
i can only imagine that our roof let out a huge sigh of relief...i can't imagine the weight it was carrying (the weight that o shoveled off).

mr. o i thank you for taking such great care of our home...inside and out!

whitewash...

while snowshoeing a path around our house for the dog, i looked back and saw hobbes shove his head into the snow. i snapped a photo and then he started digging deeper...
and deeper...
until all that was left was this...
brrr! he popped his head up and couldn't have looked happier. this guy loves the snow!

chocolates...

christina recently brought us a bag of beautiful nonpareils, which were too pretty not to photograph before devouring. i knew just the little bowl to put them in...
oh but then i had an idea to use this dish below (which was on the counter in time out from our recent egg incident)...
christina also brought over a chocolate covered graham cracker. i added a dollop of peanut butter and wooosh it was gone...too quickly to photograph. thanks sweet christina!

around the house...

lately i've been snapping lots of pictures of life around the house. just simple and everyday things and details...
my plants are trying to hang on. i moved this one to the kitchen table...our sunniest spot for some vitamin d!
and with the sun has come some wonderful shadows. i often find hobbes sunning himself by this table...drifting off to sleep.

on sunday we were driving back to cousins and i interviewed o (complete with fake microphone) about how he's feeling in our new house. he said that while he misses being able to walk into town, he loves the space, being by the ocean, and the land around where we live. i couldn't agree more...in our house and around our house i just love the thing that feel like us.

a walk in the woods...

here is a picture of me with three things i've loved every single day of this winter...my super warm coat (thanks o!), hobbes, and time to walk in the woods. we start each day this way, bundled up and on the move. if we are lucky, we meet dave and maddie out for their morning walk on the loop. i am grateful that we live near so many wonderful trails and such kind neighbors.

on the weekends o joins in on our morning walks and we usually explore other trails and preserves nearby. this weekend a few others will join, too. we're meeting my brother's new dog, niki. oh puppy love...

dream...

pretty lit-up piazza
the porch, the tiny lights, the windows, the trees that let you know you are somewhere a little warmer, all the lines on the house and rails and roof, the color of the sky and the color of the house, and the simple yet delicious meal that i imagine is cooking inside...oh i love the details of this photo and how they take my mind to a less snowy place. soon enough we will enjoy meals outside, take walks after dinner while it is still light out, and wonder how it ever got to be so hot...but right now the homebody in me is beyond grateful to have a warm house to cozy up in with my two guys.

adult snow day...

work is cancelled today...a snow day for adults! hobbes and i are just back from a wintery walk. i'm going to clean my office and do some laundry and then i have big lazy plans...drinking tea, making a big breakfast, starting a fire, curling up on the couch to read, wearing cozy stretchy pants and slippers, eating chili, and working on a craft project.

oh...and o and i are going to try to build an igloo or ice/snow bar in the backyard. here's to being a kid!

a throwback...

we had one of these hanging fruit baskets when i was a kid. o and i have a fruit bowl now, but things seemed to get buried or we run out of space. i'm thinking this might be a great way to store what we have, see what we have, reminisce a little, and eat our fruits and veggies!
