dog dance party...

on saturday we got together with friends and went to ferry beach to let the dogs run. the tide was low, so there was plenty of space to run...and that they did. hobbes and his two boxer friends kicked up sand, ate crabs, drooled, and explored the beach with such excitement.
after the beach the party continued...with some yummy mexican food and a few dog treats, too. hobbes partied as long as he could and then we drove home full and happy. hobbes snored his way back to cousins island. good dogs, good food, and good friends.

i woke up today thinking about cooking breakfast this past sunday. i was making eggs and o was on the couch reading. i cracked the fourth and final egg into the pan and the contents were disgusting. i won't go into detail, but i gasped. o looked over and said: don't. don't tell me. don't tell me or i'll never eat eggs again.

his ability to get grossed out so easily is just another one of the things i love about him.

thinking of my guys this thursday morning...i'll be home soon guys!

i'm curious...

i've made the decision to put the big writing project i've been working on on hold until for a few months. it was a wonderful suggestion by a friend. for the past few months, the project has been overwhelming and i haven't been inspired to work on it in the way i want to. so, i reread all 135 pages last week and then i put it away. i am not allowed to touch it until after my birthday. it feels freeing.

i'm taking the next three months to work on the writing that feels exciting...books for kids! i have a bunch already started, some that i first started over five years ago.

so, i'm curious...what was your favorite book as a kid?

o and i have known for a while that i'm not a great painter, but i tried again over the weekend...i'm getting better. i'm okay with it, but still trying to figure out what the problem is...impatience, steadiness of hand (or lack there of), excitement, lack of experience, or what?!

well we painted our kitchen over the weekend and we're living with it for a while to see what we think. once we are 100% i'll share some pictures. in exciting news we've 100% picked colors for our second floor...and o is all for my little second floor nest. yippee!

{this picture makes me think of, o, and hobbes...and it just feels like home}

the three of us plan to eat yummy breakfasts, go on some walks, be with friends, and take a nap or two this weekend before i head to new orleans on monday. what about you?

we've (almost) settled on a paint color for the kitchen...and we are really excited. i can't wait to get started and to share some photos. we're also talking about paint colors for the rooms upstairs. since we aren't living in the upstairs right now, sometimes i forget that we have it. i'm so excited to paint up there and not have to worry about splattering...and then i can't wait to rip the carpets up. i look forward to the day when the front room ceiling doesn't have old glow in the dark stars on the ceiling and a closet painted in primary colors. also...i'm hoping i might convince o to give me the big closet in the front room to make into a little me space filled with pillows, a tiny bookshelf, and a reading light. it's the perfect spot! i'd even welcome visitors!

for me these are the joys of home ownership. it's not the frozen pipes, mortgage payments, or cool showers, but the dreaming about making the space ours! oooh lately i've been dreaming about my garden. it's a little soon...but i can almost taste the tomatoes and basil! thankfully i have some more time to plan and dream while the knee deep snow in our backyard thaws.

family reunion...

hobbes had a family reunion this past weekend. after two days of skiing our legs needed a break, so we piled in the car and went to the farm where hobbes was born. hobbes got to have a reunion with his mom and dad...and aunt. our guy was eager to explore the farm...especially the horses.
dad, seen above, weighs 94 pounds. oh my...we are going to have an enormous cuddler on our hands!

Mounted Antlers

four! that's how many moose we saw during our drive from saddleback mountain to sugarloaf mountain...all on separate occasions. thankfully they had all already crossed the road and one of us was able them in the headlights each time. ugh but my stomach dropped at every sighting...those huge antlers, big and tall bodies, and dark roads.

i was relieved when we safely arrived at our destination...but i have to admit i was a tiny bit afraid all weekend that a big old moose was going to sneak up on me and hobbes during our morning walk in the woods. ahh but thankfully there were no more moose.

side note: we found a great dog trail just off the x-c skiing trails...and we met a dog that literally made a huge doggy snow angel. it was awesome!

we're off...

me and these two snowy bearded guys are off on a long ski weekend with some friends. to answer some questions about this picture...yes, o was wearing his 80's (and ahem...ladies) one piece snowsuit while playing with hobbes in the yard. yes, it was the best $10 he has ever spent at goodwill. no, none of our neighbors saw.
hobbes is hopefully going to have a reunion with his parents this weekend, which will be cool to see! have a great weekend. i'll be back on tuesday!

sunny bowls...

i'm not usually a big yellow person, but lately it's been growing on me. if i had these four little bowls right now i'd fill them with the following...a bowl of turkey chili, fresh fruit, ice cream with a glob of peanut butter and a few mini peanut butter cups, and some trail mix with dried raspberries, dried apples, nuts, and banana chips.

what about you?
and how great would these look against our new snowy white backdrop?

a fantastic voyage...

can you imagine jumping in here with a good book? i feel like this dreamboat would be fun to climb into if you were 3 or 103.

random fact: when i was younger i wanted to be a professional boat and race horse namer.

random fact: when o was little he wore a captains hat to school every day...with a carrot underneath.

the dogs of pinnacle farm...

a few weeks ago we got a holiday message from hannah at pinnacle farm where we got hobbes. all the other folks with pinnacle farm pups were cc'd on the message. that's when i got an idea. i wrote to everyone...except hannah and asked them to send me a picture of their dog so i (read: my more patient better half) could make a video to send to hannah as a way to thank her.

hobbes has brought so much love and laughter...and joy into our home. i never imagined i could love an animal this much. so...thank you o for your help, hannah for raising these wonderful dogs for their first few months, to the couple i stopped in the old port last year to ask about their beautiful dog who led us to pinnacle farm, hobbes for being such a love, and to all the kind owners who so quickly and enthusiastically responded to my request.

enjoy the video!

Glass Bottles I
as predicted, this weekend was filled with good friends, warm coats, time by the fire, long walks, yummy food, and playing some board games. oh and we also spent some time poking around in architectural salvage. i love all the old keys and bottles.

the looking, dreaming, and mental crafting are just so fun. while talking through all that we saw over lunch at flatbread, "go to the brimfield antique show" was added to my list of goals for 2011. it's going on during my birthday in may! i can't wait!

i wish o and i had these bunks in our house. aren't they incredible? there would be one for us to cuddle and watch old episodes of silly shows, one for each of us if we wanted alone time...and one for little hobbes! i always dreamed of having a bunk or a lofted bed. it wasn't until i was 28 that this dream came true (thanks caitlin). when i look at this picture i also imagine... quadruplets living in something like this...or if this was a stage and each of the cubbies could be a set...or being at sky meadow where the beds were just like this! oh fun fun.

well...have a great weekend all! any fun plans? jill and jersey are on their way to visit and we are so excited for a weekend of slipper wearing, great food, long walks, and maybe some games!

the fridge...

the tree is gone, the decorations are put away, santa came and went...but i am just not ready to take the holiday cards down. i love our fridge too much right now...even though it's covered. the photo above is just a small section of a big fridge. the pictures, silly kiddos, great colors, and sweet sentiments make me smile every time i reach in or pass by.

my baby journal...

while cleaning my office and going through my things over vacation, i came across the journal that my mom kept from the day i was born until just after my third birthday. it's no fancy baby book. it's a spiral note book...a chartreuse green cover that is slightly tattered and just the very edges of the lined pages are starting to yellow.
i decided to type up each of her entries, because...well, because i wanted to. it was partly out of fear that this would somehow get lost and partly because i wanted to share piece of it.

i'm most interested by the parts of this little person (me!) whom i can identify with thirty years later. oh and i love the people who are mentioned that are still in my life today!

this book and the audio tape of a family dinner during the blizzard of 1982 are my most cherished possessions. i love these so dearly because they show a slice in time, they help me to remember that which i cannot remember for myself, and they capture our family perfectly.

pasta making 101...

on new year's day it took alot of hands to make one of the yummiest dinners i've had in a while. we made fresh pasta, lobster ravioli, gnocchi, pesto, marinara sauce, and carbonara...oh and a big salad. it took hours...but it was so fun and incredibly delicious.

bryce played the role of the italian grandmother and josh was his assistant as they rolled dough...
my favorite part (aside from eating it) was watching as the pasta was cut...
hobbes loved all the action in the kitchen and found a good place to watch for any falling crumbs!
sitting together and enjoying all of our hard work was so tasty. i somehow managed not to overeat! we're already scheming for our next fresh pasta adventure...there's talk of a lasagna!

happy 2011...

we rung in the new year with friends on chebeague, which was a last minute change of plans. i hadn't been out to the island since may and it was nice to remember just how cozy the couches are, how many people you can fit in a jeep, how wonderful team cooking can be, and how fun it is to just be with friends!

we went on many long walks with hobbes. his 2011 got of to a great start when he found the place where we dumped the lobster shells from new year's dinner and helped himself. oh bop bop!

2010 was filled to the brim with so many unexpected and wonderful memories! i'm excited for another year and a new beginning. i'm working on reverse new year's resolutions...imagining it's the end of 2011 and looking back at what i accomplished, integrated, and tried. it's tricky, but fun!
